Rafa Benitez reveals Richarlison conversation before Everton penalty frustration

Rafa Benitez has explained Everton's penalty taking pecking order after Richarlison reacted with frustration in the win over Brighton.

The Blues were awarded a second-half spot-kick at the Amex Stadium when Seamus Coleman was bundled over in the box and the Brazilian took hold of the ball hoping to take the penalty.

But, as Benitez has confirmed, Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been named as the club's designated taker for every first penalty Everton are awarded.

Should the Blues get a second spot-kick in the same game, then Richarlison will take over.

The 24-year-old had to be calmed down by Coleman and Lucas Digne when the ball was taken from him but he was visibly still exasperated at full-time.

"We had this conversation before and I told him if we have two penalties, the first one is Dominic's and the second one is his," Benitez said.

"Obviously he wants to score goals, which is normal. I am pleased because Dominic scored, we played well and we won, so everyone has to be happy with that. Richy will understand that."

Richarlison worked tirelessly against Brighton but did cut a frustrated figure at times.

Benitez was asked if speculation linking him with a move to Paris Saint Germain was playing on the Brazilian's mind.

"I don't think so," he said.

"That is the positive thing for me: he was trying to compete. Don't forget he was playing in the Copa America and Olympics he came back late and he's had no holiday and he is working really hard for the team. I am really happy for him and if we have two penalties next time, he can take the second one."
