Talk of Fiorentina making a move for Rafa Benitez has been downplayed as Everton continue working on his appointment as manager.
Reports in Italy last night said the Serie A side had put Benitez on their list of candidates for their own vacant managerial position.
But the suggestion that Benitez would be interested in the job was rubbished last night as Everton continued to complete the paperwork on him becoming the successor to Carlo Ancelotti.
Ancelotti quit the club on June 1, to return to Real Madrid and Everton's search for his replacement is now approaching 24 days, but Benitez is closing in on the job.
The hope had been that a deal could have been wrapped up by the early part of this week but completing the 61-year-old's contract has taken longer.
Should Benitez complete the move to Everton, then he will become the club's fifth new permanent manager in as many years.
