Rafa Benitez makes admission over James Rodriguez and 'special situation' at Everton

Rafa Benitez says James Rodriguez remains in Qatar as talks over a move to Al-Rayyan continue.

But the Everton manager, speaking in the wake of the penalty shoot-out defeat to Queens Park Rangers, said he was awaiting a full update on the progress of the proposed move.

Rodriguez travelled to the Middle East over the weekend with Everton hoping he can reach an agreement with Al-Rayyan on a move that would alleviate some of his £200,000-a-week salary from the club's wage bill.

Benitez is hoping to find out more in the coming days but, at this stage, is not anticipating Rodriguez would be in consideration for the visit of Norwich City on Saturday.

"To be fair, I don't have too much information," Benitez said.

"I know he is already there.

"Maybe in the next couple of days we will have some more information."

When asked about Rodriguez and Everton's next game, he said: "Very difficult.

"Don't forget, we are talking about a special situation from this club, the financial fair play rules have to manage everything in the best way we can."
