Rafa Benitez linked with Newcastle return should Saudi takeover bid prove successful

Rafa Benitez is being lined up for a sensational return to the Newcastle United dugout.

That is according to the Sun, who claim the Spaniard features in proposals by Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman who is trying to buy the club for £340million.

The Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund, alongside billionaire British brothers David and Simon Reuben, are part of a consortium in talks with Newcastle owner Mike Ashley.

The deal is being brokered by Amanda Staveley, who the BBC claim wants a 10 per cent stake in the Magpies if the takeover proves to be successful.

And the Sun's report claims they are working on a return for Benitez and have made it clear, in writing, that they would make a move for the popular Spaniard.

Benitez left Newcastle last summer after his relationship with the club's hierarchy broke down. After his contract with United expired, the former Liverpool, Real Madrid and Inter Milan boss joined Chinese side Dalian Yifang on a two-and-a-half year deal.

It would spell the end of Steve Bruce's tenure in charge, although any move made for Benitez would wait until the end of the 2019/20 Premier League campaign.
