Rafa Benitez insists Miguel Almiron will be ready for next season, despite injury and Copa America commitment

Rafa Benitez is confident that Miguel Almiron will be ready to play again in pre-season - despite facing a gruelling summer with Paraguay.

Almiron is now battling to be fit for the Copa America which takes place in Brazil this summer as Paraguay take on Uruguay, Chile and guest nation Qatar.

Even if Paraguay get knocked out in the quarter-finals, Almiron will be touch and go to start pre-season for the Magpies as he will need a rest period after the tournament.

But Benitez feels he will be in a position to start the Premier League season despite leaving the field in tears against Southampton after picking up a hamstring problem.

Benitez said: "Miguel is fine.

"He went to see a specialist in Spain, started his treatment – and everything is going to plan.

"It's quite positive, and he's a good professional."

Almiron arrived from Atlanta United in January on the back of a long season of MLS football but now faces an important pre-season at United.
