Rafa Benitez in Nathan Patterson Everton confession as Rangers star backed to bring 'desire'

Hopeful Everton boss Rafa Benitez believes his new signings can bring "desire" to his under-fire Toffees.

The Spaniard watched his side lose again against Brighton on Sunday but he sees brighter days ahead with the impending arrival of Nathan Patterson.

The Rangers defender is closing in on a £10million-plus deal that will see him swap Glasgow for Merseyside.

The 20-year-old Scotland international will join Vitaliy Mykolenko at Everton, after the left-back arrived in a £17m deal from Dynamo Kyiv over the weekend.

And a jolt is needed for a side who are languishing in 15th place in the Premier League after a rotten run in recent months.

Speaking after the defeat to the Seagulls, he said: "Hopefully with Dominic (Calvert Lewin) coming back will give a little bit more hope to everyone.

"And if we are bringing players back, and signing new players, it will bring this desire that everyone is expecting."

Patterson's imminent switch to Everton has been in the works since last summer, with the Ibrox side kicking out previous bids that landed below their valuation.

And now the rampaging right-back looks set to smash their side's transfer record that was set by Alan Hutton in 2008.
