Rafa Benitez closing in on being named new Everton manager

Rafa Benitez is tonight closing in on becoming the new manager of Everton.

The 61-year-old has moved into pole position, ahead of Nuno Espirito Santo, as the Blues' first-choice to replace Carlo Ancelotti.

Benitez has been out of work since he left Dalian Professional in China earlier this year and has been keen to return to top flight management.

And, this evening, the Spaniard is edging closer to being appointed as Blues boss.

Everton had appeared to be set on handing the job to former Wolves manager Espirito Santo but the club began to cool their interest in the 47-year-old and let it be known they were still considering other managers.

And now Benitez has moved into the frame to take over from Ancelotti who left for Real Madrid on June 1.

Everton have taken 15 days to appoint their last two managers and at the same point in their latest search, former Liverpool boss Benitez has moved closer to landing the top job at Goodison.
