Rafa Benitez and Celtic twist as boss 'in talks' to replace Andre Villas-Boas at Marseille

Rafa Benitez is reportedly in talks to replace Andre Villas-Boas at Marseille.

The Portuguese boss was suspended by the Ligue 1 side on Tuesday after revealing he'd offered to resign over the signing of Celtic midfielder Olivier Ntcham.

Ntcham returned to his homeland on a loan deal until the end of the season but Villas-Boas incredibly claimed he'd said no to the transfer.

Marseille responded by taking swift action against the former Tottenham and Chelsea manager and it looks inevitable he will soon be officially sacked.

And now Telefoot report the club have turned to Benitez, who has been heavily linked with a move to Parkhead in recent weeks.

Italian media suggested earlier today the former Liverpool and Newcastle United manager had an agreement in place with Napoli in Serie A.

The Spaniard left Chinese outfit Dalian Professional on January 23, sparking claims he was set to replace Neil Lennon.

Those reports were played down by Celtic but speculation continued to simmer as bookies suspended betting on Benitez pitching up in Glasgow.

The 60-year-old is believed to be considering his options, one of which now appears to be at the Stade Velodrome.
