RAF scramble fighter jets after Russian bomber spotted off Shetland coast

An RAF fighter jet has been scrambled from a base in Scotland to intercept a Russian bomber off the coast of Shetland.

A Quick Reaction Alert Typhoon aircraft was sent from Lossiemouth earlier today to stop the Russian TU-95 as it flew close to UK airspace.

It's believed a Voyager plane from RAF Brize Norton has also been sent to assist the Typhoon.

A spokesperson for the Royal Air Force said they were unable to supply more information as the operation was ongoing.
