RAF planes fly over Glasgow: video shows huge aircraft circling city

You may have heard a large boom over the city in the last couple of days, or perhaps looked up and seen two giant planes in an otherwise empty sky.

After being spotted circling over Glasgow yesterday afternoon, the aircraft have since been identified as RAF planes, which had made their way north from England.

Amid much social media speculation, aviation experts have confirmed the impressive aircraft as a Lockheed C130J Hercules, based at Brize Norton, and a Boeing E-3D Sentry AEW1, from Waddington.

It's unclear at this stage why the two planes took to the skies above Glasgow, however the Armed Forces have conducted regular training exercises in the area over the past few months.

And video of the planes in full flight was captured on social media. Thanks to both Glasgow Airport Spotters (Twitter: @glaspotters) and Liz Rich (Twitter: @lizrich21) for allowing us to share their brilliant footage.

If you didn't see the planes on Thursday, you can watch them by clicking on the video player above.

Did you get any photos or videos of the planes? Let us know in the comments!
