RAF jets scrambled over bomb scare on Ryanair flight

Two men were arrested after a 'bomb scare' on a Ryanair flight which saw RAF fighter jets scrambled.

Ryanair flight FR1902 from Krakow to Dublin was diverted to Stansted Airport yesterday after a note was found in the plane toilet suggesting there were explosives on board.

RAF Typhoon Jets were scrambled to escort the Boeing 737 to Stansted, on the outskirts of London, after its crew declared and emergency.

The flight landed at 6.40pm and was met by armed police on the runway who evacuated passengers and checked the aircraft, reports the Mirror.

Essex Police said nothing suspicious was found on the aircraft.

An Essex police spokesperson said: "Following investigations on the plane, we've been able to establish there is nothing suspicious on board.

"Two men aged 47 and 26 have been arrested on suspicion of making threats to endanger an aircraft and are currently in custody."

All passengers on board the aircraft were safe.

The RAF fighter jets returned to their base after the flight landed.

They had been scrambled from RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire, which is one of two RAF Quick Reaction Alert Stations tasked with protecting UK airspace.
