RAF jets from a Scots base have been scrambled over the North Sea amid reports of Russian aircraft.
The Typhoons from RAF Lossiemouth, in Moray are currently shadowing Russian planes, according to a military flight monitoring account.
Bosses at the Ministry of Defence have confirmed a quick reaction alert from the base has been scrambled but did not give further details.
Mil Radar, which monitors military aircraft, reported the RAF planes had scrambled to what is believed to be Russian Tu-142 anti-submarine aircraft.
The account tweeted: " Russian aircraft now operating in the northern part of the North Sea still shadowed by RAF QRA."
A Ministry of Defence spokesman said: "Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) from RAF Lossiemouth is airborne, we do not offer detail on ongoing operations."
Incursions by Russian planes into UK airspace is not uncommon.
In November, Typhoons from RAF Lossiemouth, performed a similar action when Tu-142s were over the North Sea.
They were joined by an RAF Voyager from RAF Brize Norton, which provided air to air refuelling for the Scots fast jets.
Dramatic pictures were taken of the Russian planes as they were intercepted by the RAF crews.
It is reported that other NATO allies also helped monitor the planes.
