Rado explores its past

Captain Cook Over-Pole Limited Edition.

In 1962, Rado launched the Captain Cook series, whose variants included the hugely-successful Over-Pole Worldtimer designed for an era when international travel was a new thing.

Its 60th anniversary is marked by the Captain Cook Over-Pole Limited Edition, housed in a 37mm polished stainless-steel case. The vintage look has been preserved by the size and key design elements while performance is enhanced by technological updates.

The inward-sloping bezel with city names, the classic red date at 3 o'clock and the box-shaped glass echo the original design.

The glass, however, is now in sapphire crystal, whose faces are treated with anti-reflective coating; and the bi-directional turning bezel has a polished black high-tech ceramic insert with laser engraving for the city names.

A Captain Cook signature since 1962, the pivoting anchor is at 12 o'clock on the curved silver to black gradient dial with applied indexes and white Super-LumiNova dots on the 24-hour scale.

Available in 1,962 pieces, the limited edition offers a power reserve of 80 hours thanks to the Rado calibre R862 equipped with a Nivachron antimagnetic hairspring.

Moreover, the manual-winding movement makes the new model exceed standard test requirements for higher accuracy.

The vintage look is enhanced by a brown leather strap that can be quickly changed to a rice-grain-style stainless steel bracelet via the EasyClip system.
