Radio project reaches out to Ethiopia's prostitutes

Radio project reaches out to Ethiopia's prostitutes

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia - In Ethiopia, tens of thousands of women - many underage - are being driven to a life of prostitution.

The country's deeply conservative culture makes it difficult to find help. But a new community radio project is trying to change that and help those struggling in the sex industry.

Around 80 women visit daily to take classes in hairdressing and sewing. The aim is to show them other ways of earning a living.

The radio project is run by an association that is funded by former prostitutes. It also gets funding from the Netherlands.
