Radio presenter makes shock prediction about Wales and Real Madrid star Gareth Bale

Radio presenter Adrian Durham says he would not be surprised if Wales star Gareth Bale retires from football early.

The 29-year-old was frozen out by Zinedine Zidane at Real Madrid in the latter stages of the 2018/19 campaign.

It's been claimed on numerous occasions that Bale does not feature in the Frenchman's future plans at the Santiago Bernabeu, with the club eager to offload him.

He has been linked with the likes of Bayern Munich and Manchester United, although his agent Jonathan Barnett recently rubbished claims that Bale was set to join the former on loan.

And Durham stated that the Cardiff-born star appears to enjoy golf more than football these days.

"In terms of the very top level, people are going to shoot me down for this, I don't think Gareth Bale is there," he said.

"I think he's had some incredible moments, the Champions League final against Liverpool for example.

"However, there is a big problem there. Fundamentally he's been in (Cristiano) Ronaldo's shadow pretty much all of the time he's been at Real Madrid, and it's hard to come out of the shadow of someone that good.

"But he's had a year out of the shadow where people were looking at him saying 'what have you got?'

"Maybe the circumstances or the manager wasn't right, maybe things just weren't right to succeed. I think what might have changed, and this may have gone under the radar a bit, maybe Gareth Bale's priorities in life have changed.

"He has won a lot in football, he's gone to Real Madrid and it's easy to argue that he's been a real success there.

"But if you look at his social media and in any interviews, he seems to love golf more than football, so maybe that love for football isn't quite there.

"I think, right now, he's done what he's done, he's had an incredible football career, it would not surprise me if Gareth Bale packed up early from football."

Bale has three years left to run on his current contract with Real Madrid.
