Radio presenter Jamie Theakston falls off bike in Portishead during cycle challenge

TV and radio presenter Jamie Theakston made a whistle stop tour to Portishead as part of a fundraising cycle challenge – and fell off his bike.

Jamie is cycling from Edinburgh to London over eight days, travelling 650 miles as part of Jamie’s Bike Britain Challenge to raise money for charity.

The Heart FM presenter is raising money for a variety of charities – including North Somerset’s Springboard Opportunity Group – which he visited along the way.

He stopped off in Portishead at the town’s Corner Café for a rest and to grab something to eat.

But as he pulled in to stop, he hit the kerb, falling off his bike.

Café owner Jim Butler said: “He had come to a stop and his foot was in the pedal stirrup and he just fell off his bike and ended up sat on the pavement.

“A load of people rushed out to help him.

“He did hurt himself and he ended up with a big plaster on his left calf.”

Jamie said his cycle challenge had been tough, both physically and emotionally.

He said: "We are now on the final stretch and it’s been far tougher than I imagined.

“It’s been physically demanding obviously and emotionally challenging meeting all the kids we are raising money for along the way.

“It’s the toughest thing I’ve ever done.”

Jamie is raising money for Heart’s charity Global’s Make Some Noise.

He is due to arrive in London on Friday.
