The legendary host of ‘Late Night Gina’ is leaving Radio Clyde next month after bosses at a rival station offered a show she couldn’t refuse.
This will come as a blow to Clyde listeners, as one of their most popular voices jumps ship after over 20 years of entertainment.
Gina’s career at the station boasts record listening figures, as well as the prestigious New York Radio Award.
“I have loved my time at Radio Clyde but this was an opportunity I could not turn down,” she told Glasgow Live.
“I’m a Glasgow girl at heart and feel this new show will truly serve the people of our city. We’re going to have a lot of fun - loads of Glasgow banter and amazing tunes!”
News of Gina’s departure comes at a time of monumental change in the Scottish radio landscape.
Owners of Capital, Smooth and Heart earlier this year announced the axing of Scottish programming in favour of their presenters and studios in London. Only one show on their schedule is now broadcast locally.
A window of opportunity has therefore emerged for Scottish media.
Nation and GO Radio both launched last year, with Robin Galloway recently announced as host of the Pure Radio breakfast show - a new station set to broadcast from Glasgow at the end of 2019.
Details of which radio station Gina is moving to are still hush hush, but we’ll have an exclusive chat with the queen of radio herself when she’s finally able to spill the beans.
Gina’s last show on Clyde 2 will be on December 4.
