Radio City to close talk station after drop in listeners

Radio City is set to close a station, after saying a drop in listeners meant it is no longer viable.

Bauer Media who own the station said they "regretted to announce" that Radio City Talk would be closing in the near future.

Bauer said they had completed a "detailed review" and had come to the conclusion that the station was no longer viable.

The station launched in 2008 as the only commercial talk station for Liverpool, the North West and North Wales.

However, the company said that as a niche service, it had struggled to find a large enough audience to guarantee a future on air.

Graham Bryce, managing director of the Hits Radio Brand Networks said: “The decision to close Radio City Talk has not been an easy one.

"However, the station has unfortunately struggled to secure significant enough listening, which would generate the revenue required to keep it operating.

“We’re incredibly proud of the ground-breaking, award-winning content that the team has created across the years - tackling all the important local issues as well as spearheading some ground-breaking mental health initiatives, such as Mental Health Monday.”

Radio City Talk remains on air for now, with a projected date for closure later this Spring.

Radio City remains unaffected by the news and will continue to broadcast as usual.
