Cotham School warmly welcomed back former student Maya Jama last week (January 30).
It was all part of an opportunity for Cotham School to participate in a campaign involving Maya, Cosmopolitan Magazine and the Department of Education.
The partnership is aimed at encouraging young people into teaching.
Maya was a student at Cotham from 2005, joining the school in Year 7. She left Cotham in 2011 when she got a place on a Performing Arts Course in London.
Maya is now a successful television and radio presenter, hosting Radio 1's Friday and Saturday morning shows.
She got a trip down memory lane when she visited her old school and took part in a question and answer session with a Year 9 drama class and their teacher Mr Geoghegan.
She answered questions about her social life, recalling dinners at the school, her favourite teachers and her memories of being a student at Cotham.
Her three words to sum up the school were 'fun, free and insightful.'
Maya walked around the school, reliving all the places and classrooms where she and her friends spent their school days, talking about her experience at Cotham.
The highlight of Maya's visit was meeting up with her favourite teacher, Kim Baker.
Kim has taught at Cotham and the North Bristol Post 16 Centre since 1992 and was a huge influence on Maya's life.
Maya spoke of the belief and support Kim gave her to follow her dreams when she wanted to become and actress.
