Radio 1 Big Weekend cancelled: Harry Styles and Dua Lipa-led festival axed due to coronavirus

Radio 1’s Big Weekend is the latest festival to be cancelled due to coronavirus.

The event, which was due to be headlined by Harry Styles and Dua Lipa, was set to take place in Dundee over the late May bank holiday.

Its cancellation marks the first major British festival to be axed over the pandemic.

The decision to cancel the festival follows advice from the Scottish government, which has said gatherings of more than 500 people should be cancelled from next week.

“This decision has been made in conjunction with our event partners, in line with the advice from the Scottish government, and while we know fans looking forward to purchasing tickets will be disappointed, it is important that we prioritise the health and safety of all those involved,” Radio 1 said in a statement.

Some 70,000 people were expected to attend Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Camperdown Park on Friday 22 to Sunday 24 May.

The line-up also included Camila Cabello, Calvin Harris, AJ Tracey and Biffy Clyro.

Two US festivals have been affected by the coronavirus outbreak. Coachella was postponed until October and South by Southwest was cancelled.
