Phillip Schofield's The Cube returns after 5-year absence with whopping £1m jackpot

The Cube will be returning to ITV with a bang as bosses are set to boost the £250k jackpot to £1million.

Hosted by Phillip Schofield, the hit game show will be back after five years as creators are keen to make it bigger (and more stressful) than ever.

As well as the new million pound jackpot, two-player games will be introduced and involve pairs from the same household.

A source told The Sun that bosses were keen to "refresh" the show with some "radical" changes.

The Cube will be returning to ITV with a bang with Phillip Schofield back at the helm (ITV)

The insider revealed to the publication: "The former jackpot was £250,000, and since the show is also about coping with tension, they felt having a seven-figure sum at stake would increase that even further.

"But the simple format at the heart of the show remains largely unchanged — it’s still about contestants desperately trying to keep their cool.”

This comes after Phil, 58, took to Instagram to announce that the interactive reality game show will return following its disappearance from screens in 2015.

In a post that encouraged fans and followers to apply for the forthcoming series, the TV star wrote: "Yes!!! Game on! Can you Beat the Cube?"

The casting call teased that the new series was going to be "bigger than ever".

It also reassured potential contestants that the upcoming episodes will be produced and filmed in a Covid-19 friendly way.

"We are looking for teams of two people from the same household/ household support bubble," the teaser stated.

The new series is in search of "teams of two people from the same household/household support bubble".

The Cube ran on ITV from 2009 - 2015 and saw contestants complete a series of mental and physical challenges inside a Perspex cube.

The only person to beat the infamous box is athlete Sir Mo Farah, which goes to show how difficult it truly is.
