Radical plans are being considered to introduce signage on Buchanan Street and other city centre streets encouraging pedestrians to walk on one side of the road.
Glasgow City Council confirmed it is considering installing 'keep left' signage for the pedestrian precinct area, which would effectively be a 'one-way' system.
The plans are part of a range of measures to enable physical distancing that have been put in place across the city as the Scottish Government eases lockdown restrictions.
The council's Spaces for People programme has witnessed short-term changes to travel infrastructure such as widened footpaths around entrances to Glasgow Central Station and around George Square, alongside new bike lanes across the city.
While new pedestrian priority lights have been installed on Buchanan Street at the junction with St Vincent Street and a further 22 sets of city traffic lights automated to the green man setting to help maintain physical distancing at busy junctions.
The news comes after shoppers flocked to stores in the city centre as clothes shops and non-essential retailers reopened to the public again on Monday.
