NEW DELHI: In a last-minute setback to Team India, Radha Yadav replaced the injured Asha Sobhana in the playing XI after the toss against Australia in a crucial Women's T20 World Cup game in Sharjah on Sunday.
Asha, who was initially set to play, had to be sidelined due to an injury during the warm-up while at the same time toss was taking place. Radha, a key left-arm spinner, was brought in as her replacement to bolster India’s bowling attack.
"Ms Asha Sobhana is unable to participate in the today's game against Australia after she suffered a knee injury during the warm-up on the sidelines of toss," read a BCCI statement.
Australia's captain Tahlia McGrath, who is leading the side in place of injured Alyssa Healy, exhibited a great gesture of sportsmanship by allowing the last-minute replacement.
"Radha Yadav will replace Asha in the Playing XI. The ICC Match Referee requested the Australian captain who agreed to the request for a replacement in India's Playing XI.
The BCCI Medical Team is monitoring Asha's progress," the statement further stated.
On the match front, Australia won the toss and opted to bat against India in their last Group A match.
India made one change to bring back seamer Pooja Vastrakar in place of Sajeevan Sajana while Australia made two changes to bring back Grace Harris and Darcie Brown.
India are placed second behind Australia in the points table and a win in this game will bolster their chances of making the semifinals.
