The school teacher putting on 'social distancing' Zumba classes for her neighbours

A school teacher is helping to keep her neighbours fit by daily holding 'social distancing' exercise classes from her drive.

Judith White, 47, started the sessions at the end of last week, following a suggestion by one of her neighbours.

Every day since, her neighbours have joined her in the street for a spot of Zumba.

Judith, who lives on Warwick Road, Radcliffe, said: "Someone suggested it during the weekly NHS clapping but when it came to it though, nobody had a clue what to do.

"So I just took my bluetooth speaker outside and said I'd do a few Zumba moves.

"After that they were like 'same time tomorrow' and I just thought 'what I have got myself into?'"

The sessions are generally at 11am every day, although if Judith is in work, she pushes them back to 4.30 or 5pm.

They have grown in popularity and now most of the cul-de-sac are joining in.

"I'm putting it back to 12 this weekend so I can have a bit of a lie in," she added.

"I've been doing Zumba about three or four years but to be honest, I still wing it every time I do it!

"It's great though because we're still following social distancing, everyone's at the end of there drives.

"I stand in the middle of the road like an idiot and do my moves."

Judith believes that it has brightened up the coronavirus lockdown for a lot of her neighbours, especially those considered more at risk.

She said: "It's good because the street comes alive for 15 minutes and people have a bit of a chit chat.

"If there's something good to come out of this, it's getting to know your neighbours better.

"Some of them are in isolation because they're old and they're really looking forward to it - peering out of their door at 11 waiting to start!"
