Racist yob threatened Tesco worker with smashed beer bottles

A yob smashed beer bottles before threatening and racially abusing a Tesco worker after being rumbled trying to steal food.

But the law has caught up with Shane Unsworth, 44, who is now behind bars following the vile scenes at the Tesco store on Dale Street in Liverpool city centre.

Unsworth from Whiston was confronted by the staff member after he was caught in the act as he tried to steal food from the store on Sunday, March 15.

A Merseyside Police spokesman said: "Unsworth then smashed two beer bottles and used them to again, threaten the staff member whilst also using verbal racial abuse towards him. "

Officers detained Unsworth shortly afterwards.

Unsworth was found guilty of theft, possession of an offensive weapon and racially aggravated assault and sentenced to six months in prison.

The police spokesman added: "Threatening behaviour will not be tolerated by officers and should not be tolerated by members of the public. If you are a victim of a crime, know someone operating illegally or want to share information, please do so via social media, 101 or CrimestoppersUK."
