Racist word daubed on a house in Bristol as police investigate

Police are investigating the spraying of racist graffiti at a home in Bristol.

The offensive word was painted onto a driveway wall in Bromley Heath Road, Downend, while the house itself was hit with a number of colourful squiggles.

It was sprayed overnight on Sunday, say Avon and Somerset police, which is investigating the criminal damage.

A person inside the home this morning (January 22) did not wish to speak to Bristol Live.

But a professional graffiti remover, who had spent several hours washing off some of the paint, revealed he was “quite shocked” by what had happened.

The Graffiti Busters employee, named Michael, said: “It doesn’t seem the place - it seems out of place. You might see it in London but not round here.”

Michael said he and his colleague Ian had been instructed to remove any racism terms after their Kent head office received a phone call from an insurance company.

Michael, who said he had worked for the business for a couple of years, added that they had also removed graffiti on paintwork during their five-hour spell at the property.

The paint was washed off with chemicals and a high-pressure jet stream, according to Michael.

An Avon and Somerset police spokesperson said: “We had a call at 7.39am yesterday morning (January 21) about a report of criminal damage at a property on Bromley Heath Road, with graffiti sprayed.

“It’s believed to have happened at some point between midnight and 7am yesterday morning.

“Investigations are ongoing and we’re looking through CCTV footage at the moment.”

The spokesperson added that anyone with information which might help with the investigation can call 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously, citing the reference number 5220015755.
