Customers were left appalled after a Black History Month poster was vandalised with racist graffiti.
The sign at Sainsbury's Local on Larkswood Road in Redcar was defaced with the letters 'KKK' scribbled across the centre, according to Teesside Live.
It originally stated: "Celebrating Black History Month #blackhistorymonth."
However, outrage shoppers found it this morning with the name of the white supremacist terrorist group scrawled over it.
The Ku Klux Klan is one of the oldest and most infamous hate organisations founded in the US, with a long history of violence against African Americans and other minority groups.
It began at the end of the American Civil War in 1865.
Customers have taken to social media to share their disgust, one shopper said: "So I never thought of Redcar as a racist place but saw this at Sainsbury's Larkswood Road today.
"Makes me sick! Who would even dream of writing KKK over it."
Others have branded the graffiti as 'vile' and dubbed the culprits as 'ignorant'.
A Sainsbury’s spokesperson said: ‘‘The vandalism was removed as soon as it was brought to our colleague’s attention.’’
