Racist graffiti close to Bangor nursery school branded "despicable"

Appeals have been made to the public after a spate of racist graffiti close to a nursery school in Bangor.

A message was placed close to Trinity nursery school on Brunswick Road stating "Ireland minority Irish by 2060." The council removed the message alongside other graffiti, and then a further racist message, "Britain minority white by 2066," reappeared in the same spot, this time sprayed with stencil.

Ards and North Down Councillor Connie Egan has appealed to those behind the graffiti to "stop damaging their community." She said: “Bangor is an open and welcoming community and it is extremely disappointing that this racist display has appeared not once, but twice.

“Not to mention the waste of public money every time it is painted back, those behind it need to really think hard on how their actions impact the surrounding area – and in this case the children and parents accessing the local nursery unit.

“It is despicable, distasteful and not welcome in Bangor West. I am working to get this removed again and would urge anyone with knowledge as to who is responsible to come forward. I have already raised this issue with local police officers earlier this week, but with more information we can remove this blight from society once and for all."
