A woman has been banned from one of her town’s main streets for three years – to give residents peace from her bigoted tongue.
Karen Mason, 49, verbally abused people in Bo'ness, West Lothian, “almost daily” for nearly two-and-a-half years.
Many of her targets were neighbours of her elderly mother.
In one particularly nasty outburst she called a man “a homosexual, flag-waving Jew”, a court was told.
Prosecutor Kristina Kelly said: “Comments directed at other neighbours included, ‘That’s the black b******’.”
Falkirk Sheriff Court heard Mason’s behaviour got so bad that a couple living in Links Road, Bo’ness, started keeping a diary of her comments.
She told a woman, “Your kids are a bunch of retards”, and shouted at a council roadsweeper: “You’re nothing but a lazy b******, I know where you stay.”
Mason pled guilty this week to using threatening and abusive behaviour, and uttering derogatory, anti-Semitic and homophobic remarks, between April 2017 and August last year.
Mark Fallon, defending, said: “There are underlying issues with alcohol.”
Sheriff Derek Livingston imposed a non-harassment order banning Mason from entering Links Road until mid-September 2023.
He also imposed a restriction of liberty order for nine months, requiring her to wear an electronic tag and not leave her home between 7pm and 7am.
Mason was placed on social work supervision for three years and ordered to have alcohol counselling.
The sheriff told her: “You are a complete nuisance to other people. I’m anxious to stop any further nonsense.”
Mason left court without commenting.
