Racism drama Unsaid Stories applauded for searing honesty as viewers are moved to tears

ITV's new racism drama Unsaid Stories received high praise from viewers when its first episode aired on Monday.

The Black Lives Matter-inspired series comprises four short stories which explore the different ways racial discrimination takes places in the UK.

In the first 15-minute film, Generational , 16-year-old Justina, played by Yasmin Monet Prince, tries to sneak out to a BLM protest.

But she is caught by her father Oliver, played by Nicholas Pinnock, who rule she is not allowed to go, and is furious at her for trying.

Justina cannot understand why her dad appears not to support the cause, and she begs him for an explanation.

Eventually, he makes a heartbreaking revelation, that he protested racism in his youth, and watched his best friend be murdered by racists in front of him.

"I watched my best friend die," he told his daughter, revealing he was simply terrified for her safety.

They embrace, and Oliver then joins Justina in the protest in the emotional conclusion.

After the show, there was an intermission where a story was read out by a voice while the text appeared on the screen.

It was a woman speaking about her experiences of racism, and watching her father be brutally beaten by the police in his own garden.

One viewer tweeted: "Flicked on the TV randomly just at the right time to watch #UnsaidStories. Complex human stories leaving me with a lot to think about. Also beautiful acting".

A third wrote: " #UnsaidStories wow that was brilliant. So moving. Thanks @ITV ".

" #UnsaidStories was so sweet....reminds me of a conversation i was having w my mom and dad before the protest and literally so many of my friends had to have too.." added a fourth.

Another added: " #UnsaidStories promised ourselves we wouldn't but part one got us bawling already. Great job everybody."
