Racing Louisville FC made history on Saturday afternoon as they hosted the Utah Royals in a thrilling NWSL match at Lynn Family Stadium. The game featured two former NWSL players turned coaches facing off for the first time in league history.

Under the guidance of head coach Bev Yanez, Racing Louisville delivered a stellar performance, clinching a resounding 5-1 victory over the Utah Royals. The match witnessed multiple records being broken by the club in front of their largest crowd ever, with 11,365 enthusiastic fans in attendance.

The action-packed game saw Nigerian forward Uchenna Kanu open the scoring for Racing Louisville in the 26th minute with a well-placed header, marking her fourth goal of the 2024 NWSL season and setting a new record for the most goals scored so far in the season.

Despite a late equalizer from the Utah Royals' Olivia Griffitts just before halftime, Racing Louisville came out firing in the second half. Forward Savannah DeMelo netted a quick brace within 10 minutes to regain Racing's lead at 3-1.

DeMelo expressed her joy at securing the win, highlighting the intense and supportive atmosphere created by the fans. She credited head coach Bev Yanez for her leadership and emphasized the team's determination to continue their winning streak.

Carson Pickett's precise cross set up forward Reilyn Turner for her first goal with Racing, extending the lead to 4-1. The scoring spree continued as rookie Emma Sears showcased her skills by dribbling through the opposition defense to score Racing's fifth goal.

Head coach Bev Yanez praised her team's hard work and dedication, describing the breakthrough victory as a special moment for the entire squad. The 5-1 win marked a historic milestone for Racing Louisville, with the highest number of goals scored in the club's history.

With this victory, Racing Louisville FC climbed to fifth place in the NWSL standings and remains undefeated after securing their first win of the season following four consecutive draws. The team now sets its sights on replicating their success as they prepare to face Gotham FC in their upcoming match on April 28.
