Racing driver has roof terrace planning application blocked for £1.8million Edinburgh home

Racing driver Paul di Resta has been blocked from adding a roof terrace to his luxury £1.8million Edinburgh property.

The ex-F1 ace bought the townhouse earlier this year and revealed plans to modernise it into one of the capital’s most luxurious homes.

The A-listed Georgian house was originally designed by James Gillespie Graham in 1822 for the 10th Earl of Moray.

Di Resta, 34, had been given the green light to start a programme of expensive renovations at the five-storey site.

But council officials ruled against his proposals to convert the roof into a terrace with decking, glass balustrade, seating and lighting.

They also put the brakes on plans to create a set of double doors on the ground floor of the property, which is part of a protected UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Di Resta appealed the decision to the Scottish Government who have confirmed the council decision as the terrace would affect the skyline.

Di Resta appears on Sky TV as an F1 pundit.
