RACHEL Reeves has said she will "always be a friend of Israel".
The Chancellor made the comments while speaking at a Labour Friends of Israel reception at the Labour Party Conference.
It comes one day after Labour members voted that Israel is committing genocide.
Reeves told the reception: "I know as well in the last couple of years, in the last 15 months, you haven't always been pleased with the decisions of this government.
"I understand. I feel your pain. But know in me, you always have a friend."
She went on to say: "As long as I am in the Cabinet, as long as I am Chancellor of the Exchequer, I will always stand up for the Jewish community, stand up for Israel."
"I'll be here with you next year and the year after and the year after that and the year after that," she said.
"I'll always be a friend of Israel. I'll always be a friend of everybody in this room."
The Labour Friends of Israel reception also saw speeches from Israeli deputy ambassador Daniela Grudsky, who condemned the UK Government's recent move to recognise the state of Palestine, as well as international development minister Jennifer Chapman.
On Monday, a motion urging Keir Starmer to call Israel's military attack on Gaza a genocide was passed at the Labour Party conference.
The emergency motion called on the party to accept “the findings of the UN Commission of Inquiry that Israel is committing a genocide”, moved by the Unison trade union group.
The motion also called “on the British Government to take urgent action” against Israel, including “a full arms embargo”.
Meanwhile, a motion reaffirming the UK Government’s position that there is a “risk” of genocide in Gaza was rejected by members.
