Rachel Mcadams Discusses Broadway Debut And The Notebook Musical Adaptation

Rachel McAdams poses for a portait

Rachel McAdams may not be starring in The Notebook on Broadway, but she is thrilled about the show. The Oscar nominee recently discussed her Broadway debut in the play Mary Jane by Amy Herzog. Coincidentally, just two blocks away, the musical adaptation of The Notebook is drawing sold-out crowds.

McAdams humorously shared how some people have mistaken her involvement in the musical adaptation of The Notebook, based on the popular Nicholas Sparks novel. She recounted a funny incident where a friend's mom thought she was starring in the musical and would be singing and dancing on Broadway.

Reflecting on the iconic rain scene from the film adaptation of The Notebook, McAdams expressed her curiosity about how it would be portrayed in the Broadway musical. She hoped that the scene would be handled more gently on stage than it was during filming, where they were drenched with water from a fire hose.

Despite the mix-up and the humorous anecdotes, McAdams expressed genuine excitement about the Broadway adaptation of The Notebook. She described it as a thrilling experience to see the story take on a new life on stage, especially considering the uncertainty surrounding the film's reception when they were making it.

Meanwhile, Mary Jane, the play in which McAdams is making her Broadway debut, follows the story of a single mother navigating a challenging family situation with optimism, humor, and the support of the women around her. The production is set to open on April 23 at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre.
