The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel star Rachel Brosnahan is taking on an important role this spring - she’s the new face of her late aunt Kate Spade’s Frances Valentine label.
Brosnahan pays tribute to her late aunt with the label’s spring 2019 campaign. Spade founded the accessories brand Frances Valentine in 2016.
“In the wake of Katy’s passing, my family and I were so overwhelmed and encouraged by the love and support we received from those who were touched by Katy’s work, many of whom were strangers from around the world,” Brosnahan told People.
“When you lose someone you love, you search for boundless ways to keep their memory alive. This felt like a way to do that through her beautiful creations and an opportunity to share them with all of those who her work meant so much to," Brosnahan said about the meaningful collaboration.
Spade founded the colorful, playful accessories brand Frances Valentine in 2016 with her husband, Andy, and Elyce Arons, her best friend since her college days. The name is in honor of her daughter, Frances Beatrix.
Now, Arons is taking the reigns as Frances Valentine’s CEO.
“She’s always been very close to Katy, and she’s been a part of the company since the beginning,” Arons said about the casting decision.
The photo shoot paid homage to Spade in a variety of ways. It was shot in one of Spade's favorite places - the Frances Valentine New York showroom that overlooks Bryant Park and is covered with the family’s art. The playlist was provided by the Frances Valentine team and showcased some of Spade’s favorite songs.
Brosnahan clutched colorful bags and wore vintage ensembles that were inspired by her aunt.
She also posed with the Midge bag, which her aunt named after her Mrs. Maisel character.
