Rachael Blackmore remains eight wins behind Paul Townend in race to be crowned champion jockey

Rachael Blackmore remains eight winners behind Paul Townend in the race to be crowned champion jockey after drawing a blank at Limerick on Monday.

The Tipperary jockey has cut Townend's lead by two since her Grand National success, with the defending champion rider currently on the sidelines due to a foot injury picked up at the Fairyhouse Easter meeting.

Blackmore had four mounts at Limerick on Monday afternoon, with just one of them finishing in the money.

Both her mounts for Henry de Bromhead (Caletta Storm and Oryx Hustler) finished ninth in their respective races before she finished third on board Amlad in the Kilmallock Handicap Hurdle (Div I) for trainer Andrew McNamara.

Blackmore partnered 3/1 favourite Macs Legend in the last race of the day, the Patrickswell Handicap Hurdle (Div II), but had to pull up the 13-year-old as 18/1 shot Arctic Light won the race for owner JP McManus, trainer Thomas Mullins and jockey Mark Walsh.

It is still unclear if Townend will be fit to ride at next week's Punchestown Festival.

Speaking on Sunday, Willie Mullins said: “I have no update on Paul Townend. We are just waiting for as long as we have to wait."
