Rachael Blackmore odds on to be crowned RTE Sportsperson of the Year

Rachael Blackmore is odds on to be crowned RTE Sportsperson of the Year after the eight-strong shortlist was announced this morning.

The Cheltenham Champion Jockey and Grand National winner is among a star-studded list, with six of the eight nominees being women in a stand-out year for women's sport.

And as betting odds emerged following the announcement, it's clear that the Tipperary star is the frontrunner as she's backed at just 2/5 to take the award.

But Olympics hero Kellie Harrington is just a length behind as she trails Blackmore in the early betting, with the gold medal winning boxer backed at 9/4.

Solheim Cup star Leona Maguire, Meath Ladies ace Vicki Wall and undisputed lightweight champion boxer Katie Taylor are also among the outsiders to take this year's crown.

Nicola McGeady of Ladbrokes said: “Rachael Blackmore has had an incredible year, making horse racing history at Cheltenham and Aintree. Although the competition is incredible, we think Blackmore deserves to come out on top.”

9/4 Kellie Harrington

16/1 Leona Maguire

20/1 Vikki Wall
