Racehorse owner's joyous interview goes viral after her 'best friend' wins £7,000 race

A joyous owner's interview has gone viral after her 'best friend' won a £7,000 race.

Georgie Davies became an internet hit after showing her emotions in the aftermath of Inishbiggle's success.

The young horsewoman was smiling broadly while helping the horse cool down after the race at Doncaster on Tuesday.

Not only does Davies do the post-race work but she rides the horse up the gallops at home too.

The pair's bond delighted TV viewers, with Davies telling host Luke Harvey how proud she was of the hurdler.

After cheering the 9-1 shot home, she said: "I ride him every day. It's just fab. I'm made up. This is just brilliant.

"I was trying not to cry (watching). I can't tell you how much this means to me.

"I work so hard to have my horse… and he's won! I work for Gary (Hamner, Inishbiggle's trainer) – ride out, muck out, everything.

"I love my horse, he means everything to me.

"He's my best friend."

Davies revealed how she originally bought Inishbiggle, who won his first race in May 2021, to ride in point-to-points.

Harvey, a former jockey, has had runners in that discipline himself and was thrilled for the interviewee.

"This interview sums up why I love horse racing," he tweeted.

Davies' reaction to her success spread far and wide, with one clip of it amassing over 150,000 views.

During his triumph, Inishbiggle defeated the favourite Peejaybee, whose trainer Richard Spencer had already won with Cheltenham Festival prospect Wonderwall on the card.

Dozens of congratulatory messages to Davies were posted by racing fans on social media.

One said: "Brought a tear to my eye. What a lovely lady, great to see the emotion, well done."

Another person added: "Absolutely tremendous."

While a third wrote: "You couldn't be any happier for her could you!"

Ininshbiggle kept up the great form of the Hanmer yard, as he was their 19th winner of 2021-22.

That is more than double their previous best, with several months still to go.

Prolific Sir Tivo won five races between June and November, with the most recent one off a mark 31lb higher than when the run started.
