Racegoers go polka dot crazy at Aintree's Grand National Festival 2019

The eyes of the world were on Aintree today as the world's biggest horse race prepared to get underway.

Every year there is a fashion trend that takes over Aintree and this time round it was all about polka dots.

Ladies showed their own individual style as they chose a polka dot pattern with dresses, skirts and headpieces all giving a nod to the trend.

Speaking to the ECHO ahead of Aintree's Grand National, Alex Meade, a dressmaker based in Aintree, said: "I can't believe how many polka dot outfits I have made for this year's races.

"I bought around 50 metres of fabric and sold out of it almost straight away - everyone can't get enough of Polka dots."

From big bold spots to subtle pin polka dots - racegoers have really gone spotty crazy this year.
