Police believe "racial and gender bias" may be behind an incident at an alleged brawl at a Liberal Party meeting in a Sydney kebab shop in June, a Sydney court has heard.
Mohammed Reda, 28, from Arncliffe appeared before Sutherland Court this morning charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, resisting arrest and assaulting an officer in the course of executing their duty.
He has pleaded not guilty.
The charges stem from an alleged brawl which erupted during a Liberal Party branch meeting at Naji's Charcoal Chicken and Kebabs, in Arncliffe, on June 18.
One man was taken to hospital after the incident.
It is alleged Mr Reda also pushed a female officer during the arrest.
The fight allegedly erupted over claims some members were trying to "stack" the branch with outsiders.
Documents tendered to court in a police report on Mr Reda's alleged actions stated: "The alleged facts of this matter suggest that this offence may have been both racially and gender bias motivated," the police report said.
The ABC understands Mr Reda is not a member of the Liberal Party.
Mr Reda's bail has been continued, along with his curfew being lifted.
The case resumes next month.
