
Iran is home to a colourful array of ethnicities: Persians, Arabs, Azeris, Kurds, Baluchis, Lurs and a group that's less talked about: the Black African community. While we have no verified figures, according to some reports, there are more than tens of thousands of Black Iranians living in a number of cities. To talk more about the Iranian-African community both in and out of the country, we speak to Priscillia Kounkou Hoveyda, one of the founders of the Collective for Black Iranians.
Meanwhile, more than 50,000 activists, journalists and politicians across the globe have been spied on using phone malware developed by a private Israeli cyber intelligence firm. The revelations, reported by a number of media outlets and NGOs, have raised concerns over privacy and human rights abuses.
Finally, in some areas of Iran at this time of year, temperatures can reach up to 50°C. One of those provinces is Khuzestan in the southwest, which is also home to a predominantly Arab community. Many of them have been taking to the streets to demand access to clean drinking water. These calls have been met with violence and gunfire from the country's security forces.
