Race Across the World London: Brand new route released for autumn and winter

The team behind London’s immersive Race Across the World experience — in which participants must navigate the city relying on their wits alone — have announced a new route and new games built around London in winter. It will launch in November.

The game, which first opened in May, lets participants recreate the trips seen on the popular television show of the same name, albeit on a smaller scale. Just as in the programme, those taking part will have to get from A to B without the use of any modern technology, relying on their wits alone and using a limited budget. John Hannah’s voiceover is missing, but that’s about all.

The experience, which lasts between two and three hours, has already proven to be immensely popular. As such, the firm behind it, CityDays, has created a new four to five kilometre route promising “new gameplay” and “a seasonal twist to celebrate the winter months.”

The new route will require teams to race against the clock, pick up treasure, and, according to press bumf, “embrace the seasonal spirit”. It will take participants on a different journey from the existing path, meaning those who have already played the game won’t have the same experience again. Along the way will be various physical and mental puzzles and challenges, including a number of escape room-style activities. Those playing will be scored on how quickly they complete the course, and how much budget they have left at the end of the game.

“Creatively designed to capture the sights, sounds, and spirit of London in the colder months, the new route takes participants on a four to five kilometre race through a fresh corner of the capital, winding through twinkling streets and lively neighbourhoods,” a press announcement for the new route reads. “From November, players will uncover seasonal highlights, including dazzling shopfronts and glittering street displays, cosy cafés, bustling markets, welcoming pubs, and partner venues offering exclusive discounts, perfect for warming up with a glass of mulled wine or hot chocolate, enjoying a festive treat, or planning their next move.”

The route will also include stops at ice-skating rinks, Christmas lights and some of London’s most famous neighbourhoods.

Tom Rymer, founder of CityDays, which is behind the experience, said: “We’re incredibly excited to introduce a brand-new route for Race Across the World: The Experience. It’s a fresh challenge for fans and newcomers alike, combining physical puzzles, a brand-new part of London, and an extra layer of festive atmosphere for the winter months. It’s the perfect mix of adventure, strategy and seasonal fun.”

Immersive experiences seem to be having something of a moment in London at present. It was announced recently that The Legend of the Titanic Exhibition at Dock X in Canada Water has extended its run until February 1 2026, to keep up with consumer demand.
