Rabbie Burns lookalikes sought for Beatson Cancer Charity fundraiser

Still Game star Gavin Mitchell and his dog Bob are waxing lyrical in support of the Beatson Cancer Charity as they stage a virtual Burns supper this Friday.

The charity is going global to celebrate the brilliance of Rabbie Burns with online event The Bard and his Belles – and Gavin and his beloved pet helped promote the fundraiser with a fun call to find Burns lookalikes.

Anyone knows someone who looks like The Bard is asked to post a picture on social media using the hashtag #BeatsonBard and tagging the Beatson Cancer Charity.

Gavin said: “Wee sleekit coorin timorous cancer, we’re gonnae beat ye ... ya chancer.

“Bob and I are looking forward to a special night of verse, music, fun and frolics while sharing our haggis, neeps and tatties; and a wee dram for Bob!”

Virtual fundraiser The Bard and his Belles will be hosted by broadcaster Alison Walker, with guests including Karen Dunbar, Hazel Irvine and Eric Davidson, one of Scotland’s finest after-dinner speakers.

The night will be filled with Burns’ poems and songs and tributes made to the great Bard to honour his birthday.

Entertainment will be provided by Celtic rock band the Red Hot Chilli Pipers, and there will also be an interactive quiz which will test participants’ knowledge of Rabbie and Scotland.

A silent auction will celebrate items synonymous with Scotland from unique staycations, whiskies from around the country, paintings from Scottish artists and exclusive prizes.

These include being the first to stay at the recently refurbished COVO Grand Central Hotel; a tour of Central Station courtesy of Network Rail; a five-star luxury staycation at Cameron House Hotel; “fore” to the final day of the AIG Women’s Open at Carnoustie.

Also on offer will be art from artists Gerard M Burns, Graham McKean and Lilias; and various whisky packages from Loch Lomond, a Glenfiddich dining experience at Glaschu, a limited-edition Burns box set from Rapscallion Soda and Johnnie Walker Black Label.

Virtual tickets for the event are available to buy online, costing £30 per household.
