Rabbi Matondo seals Rangers transfer as Schalke winger pens 4-year Ibrox deal

Rangers have announced the signing of winger Rabbi Matondo on a four-year deal.

Talks had been ongoing with the 21-year-old over the past week and reports in Germany claimed he was arriving in Glasgow within 24 hours to undergo a medical. All went to plan and his signing has now officially been confirmed by the club. It's understood Rangers have paid a fee in the region of £2.5m for his services and he'll wear the No.17 shirt at Ibrox.

He arrives after a busy week at Ibrox that saw Antonio Colak and Tom Lawrence both put pen to paper. In total he's the fourth signing of the summer, with John Souttar also arriving from Hearts on a free transfer. Matondo, a Manchester City youth graduate, struggled for game-time at Schalke but impressed with ten goals in 27 games for Cerle Brugge last season.

He said: “I am absolutely buzzing to have signed for a club as big as Rangers. I am just looking forward to getting on the pitch at Ibrox in front of the amazing fans we have here at Rangers and I am excited. This is a big club with a massive history, and I just want to create more memories and more history here at the club.”

And manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst added: “I’m really pleased to welcome Rabbi to Rangers. I spoke last week about my desire to add more attacking quality to my squad, and we all believe Rabbi will do that. He will bring many strong attributes to the team, and I am really looking forward to seeing him in training this afternoon for the first time."
