Rabat Hosts 27th Edition of International Book, Publishing Fair

Morocco’s Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid (Asharq Al-Awsat)

Morocco is scheduled to host the 27th edition of the International Book and Publishing Fair (SIEL) in the capital Rabat during the period between June 3 and 12.

Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid said this edition is a launching point to a world of knowledge.

He said it will be held under the patronage of King Mohammed VI and underscored the importance of books as ambassadors of culture and a pillar of the cultural and creative industry.

Bensaid’s remarks were published on the exhibition’s official website.

The Minister expressed hope that the event would achieve a qualitative addition to what the kingdom has accomplished over the past years.

He said that the event coincides with the kingdom’s celebration for selecting Rabat as the capital of culture in the Islamic world and the capital of African culture.

The 2021 edition of the event was not held due to the COVID-19 pandemic’s health restrictions.

The Office des Foires et Expositions de Casablanca (OFEC), which usually hosts the fair, was then refitted as a field hospital for coronavirus patients.

Intellectuals, researchers, writers, professionals and readers usually attend the event. They will get the chance to meet directly with lecturers from various African countries on issues related to African literature and ideology.
