R3 in Scotland appoints a new chair

Insolvency trade body R3 in Scotland has appointed Richard Bathgate as its new chair, taking over from Addleshaw Goddard partner Tim Cooper.

Bathgate is a restructuring partner at accountancy firm Johnston Carmichael, who is based in the Aberdeen office.

He will now support the representation work R3 carries out on the profession’s behalf.

Bathgate has experience of the oil and gas sector, along with a variety of other industries, and specialises in independent business reviews, accelerated sales processes, corporate restructuring, corporate insolvency and members' voluntary liquidations.

Prior to joining Johnston Carmichael, he worked for seven years at PwC as part of the restructuring team, where he focused on conducting independent business reviews for lenders and stakeholders, corporate insolvency and corporate restructuring.

He said: “The previous chairs have done fantastic work in bringing the Scottish insolvency and restructuring community together and with a new generation of young professionals in Scotland coming through.

“I’m keen that they and our more experienced members take advantage of all that R3 has to offer – whether that’s technical support, training, or networking opportunities.”
