R&B singer Brandy has thanked fans for their "prayers and support" after she was admitted to hospital.

The singer-actress, 43, took to Instagram to offer an update on her condition after it had been reported on Wednesday she had suffered a potential seizure the day before.

Writing on her Stories, the Moesha star told her 5.7 million followers: "To my beloved fam, friends and starz thank you for sending love and light my way (sic).

"I am following doctors' orders and getting the rest I need due to dehydration and low amounts of nutrition. Thank you for your prayers and support. Grateful for you all, see you soon."

She posted the same message to Twitter and fans were quick to send well wishes in the comments section.

One user wrote: "Take your time queen get plenty of rest we love you and cant wait for you to come back when you've made a full recovery. Get well soon."

It's said Brandy's parents attended the hospital with her, while her brother Ray J is yet to comment on the incident.

Brandy first broke onto the scene as a young teenager. She began performing as a backing vocalist for teen groups and released her first debut album in 1993.

Shortly after, she took up acting and played the lead role in hit sitcom Moesha for six seasons before she made a return to music.

Her 1998 duet with Monica titled The Boy Is Mine came off her second album New Say Never and sold an impressive 16 million copies, earning her a Grammy Award.
