R&B singer B. Smyth, a popular presence on YouTube whose “Twerkoholic” was a big hit, died Thursday at age 28, his brother said.
Smyth, whose real name was Brandon Smith, died of respiratory failure following “a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis,” his sibling Denzil wrote on the late singer’s Instagram account.
His death occurred exactly three weeks after he released the song “Twerkoholic, Pt. 2″ with the artists Roj & Twinkie.
“My brother was very excited to see a lot of you create challenges for his latest released single #Twerkoholic part 2 while he was in the ICU,” Denzil wrote.
“So on behalf of my brother and my family we want to say thank you to all of you for all of your love & support throughout the years. We ask for privacy during these difficult times. We also want to say thank you for all of your prayers #RIPBSMYTH Love you bro!”
The original “Twerkoholic” came out in 2014 and has more than 13.3 million listens on Spotify.
Smyth was also known for songs such as 2018′s “Ride Good,” which has nearly 14 million listens, and his 2012 debut single, “Leggo” featuring the rapper 2 Chainz, which has been streamed more than 4 million times.
