Paulo Coelho is a Brazilian novelist born in Rio de Janeiro on August 24, 1947. He is best known for The Alchemist, one of the world’s most widely read inspirational novels.

Before becoming a bestselling author, Coelho traveled across several countries, wrote song lyrics with Brazilian musician Raul Seixas, and briefly faced imprisonment in 1974 over alleged activities against the Brazilian government, as per a Britannica report.
