KOZHIKODE: Police arrested the parents of a woman along with five members of a quotation gang in connection with the alleged attack against a person who aided the register marriage of their daughter, against their wishes.
Chevayoor police on Friday arrested Aniruddhan and Ajitha from Thalakkulathur along with the five members of the quotation gang in connection with the attack against Kayyalathodi Rineesh (42) hailing from Vappolithazham near Vellimadukunnu. The arrested gang members were identified as Thalakkulathur residents Ashwanth, Balu Pranav, Subash Benny, Arun and Avinash from Annassery. Rineesh was attacked while he was on his way home on the night of December 11.
According to the police, the girl, an MBBS student, was in a relationship with a youth working in Singapore and they had got married three years ago despite opposition from her parents. Police said the parents gave quotation to the gang by paying Rs 2.5 lakh to attack Rineesh, a relative of the bridegroom on the belief that he had helped them marry.
Rineesh, who was returning home at night, was hit with an iron rod on the head. Police said the gang had asked Rineesh to remove his helmet before the attack. The quotation gang had left the district after the attack and had stayed in Perinthalmanna, Kochi and Pollachi. They returned to Kozhikode after they ran out of money and were nabbed.
